Side honed and taper blades are thicker at the toe and thinner at the tail as well as being honed on both edges.

Honed sides increase the angle between the blade and the ice when taking a deep edge. Much like speed skating blades, this allows the skater to sit on a much deeper edge, have maximum grip without changing their sharpening hollow.

Side Honed blades are also taperd. They are features found as standard on the Gold Seal, Gold Star and Phantom

Tapered blades are thicker at the front and thinner at the back and allow for the side honed feature. Parabolic blades are thinner in the middle but can not be side honed.
